Holding two things at the same time is one of the

Holding two things at the same time is one of the most important lessons I’ve learned over the past decade of my weight loss.

I can desire to achieve new goals AND be proud of where I am today and how I am showing up and taking care of myself today.

If happiness is waiting on a number on the scale, you’re putting it somewhere you’ll never reach.

Weight loss didn’t change my life.

The relationship I built with my body while doing it did.

So along the way I practiced gratitude for my body and my life at each stage. I avoided bringing shame into the process and instead brought curiosity when I started to feel it creeping up.

You can lose weight out of shame and guilt, but you’re never going to keep it off if that’s what it takes to get there.

You don’t start liking yourself after losing 20 pounds. You bring that with you.

This mindset isn’t just essential for sustainable fat loss, it’s how you start feeling better, feeling confident, and actually enjoying your life now, not someday.

PLEASE NOTE… I do not think I’m morally better than anyone else for how I eat and I know this topic is very complicated for many reasons, especially privilege playing a big role.

I do have the means and access to more whole nutrient dense foods and I value prioritizing them in my daily life and that has been the biggest change to feeling good in my body during perimenopause.

And I know there are a lot of women with the same privilege and access to me who feel absolutely miserable and their nutrition is the reason.

Now if you’re curious what my meals look like 99% of the time, here you go…

Breakfast:
3 Hard Boiled Eggs + 2 Chicken Sausage + Berries + 1-2 Pieces of Dave’s Killer Thin Sliced Bread

OR 2 Eggs + 150g Egg Whites + Spinach + Kiwi + ½ Dave’s Killer Bagel

OR 0% Plain Greek Yogurt + Oatmeal + Chia/Flax Seed + Berries + Nut Butter

Lunch:
I keep it simple with leftovers from dinner I microwave. No time to reinvent the wheel here! And I like to add some nuts on the side of my breakfast and/or lunch too like brazil nuts, almonds, walnuts

Dinner:
I use my build your bowl method⤵️

½ my bowl = green veggies zucchini, asparagus, brussel sprouts, broccoli

¼ plate protein = 93% ground beef, ground turkey, ground lamb, shrimp or salmon

¼ plate starch = sweet potato, baked potato, or rice

Cooked in a thumb size of olive oil for some healthy fat
I also love to have a side of arugula with some pumpkin seeds too!

Snacks - I don’t really snack. When eat larger meals with more whole nutrient dense foods, you won’t be craving snacks all afternoon and evening!

Pre-workout - I do make sure to get some protein + carbs and a little fat before workouts. This could be a protein shake + rice cakes + nut butter + berries OR protein shake + banana + nut butter OR protein shake + rice cake + apple sauce pouch

Eating out - Usually around once a week and I don’t really stress too much over what I order since I don’t eat out all the time, but I also don’t go YOLO either (I save that for the special occasions!).

Professor Lauren is back to help you understand why strength training + proper nutrition is so important when you’re trying to lose weight.

Let’s start with a proper strength training program, which is not Orange Theory, F45 or picking random Peloton classes. It’s a program written to target specific muscles with progressive overload which means increasing the stress on your body during your workouts repeating the same movement patterns week over week to gain strength, endurance, and grow your muscle size.

That’s why doing random workouts each week gets you random results, but following a program that’s specifically written for you to target those muscles and movement patterns each week for 4-6+ weeks is what gets you results.

A proper nutrition plan to lose weight does mean a calorie deficit AND it also means fueling your body with enough protein, fiber, and healthy fats to support your body to thrive while you’re losing weight.

A good rule of thumb is 0.7 - 1.0 grams/lb of body weight for most women.

When you follow a well written strength training program + follow a nutrition plan that helps you get enough protein then you’ll see those changes in your body and that number when you step on the scale is less important.

Let’s be honest, this one isn’t actually “we

Let’s be honest, this one isn’t actually “weird.”

But somehow… so many women still aren’t doing it.

Hydration makes weight loss easier, boosts energy, helps digestion, and gives you better skin.

And yet most of us are out here surviving on coffee and fridge cigs wondering why we feel bloated and exhausted.

This is the cheapest hack that exists.

So yes…I carry my emotional support water bottle everywhere and I have zero shame about it.

Now settle the debate for me…

This trend couldn’t have hit a more “perfect” year for me to share this story.

2016 was the “before” year.

The year my body had enough and so did I.

After years of living in that constant pull between being a corporate leader and a new mom, I finally stopped fighting myself.

I stopped trying to shrink, manage, and prove my way through it all and started letting myself take up space in ways I never had before.

I started to wonder why we never questioned when dads worked late, traveled or trained for marathons.

Why we never referred to them as “working dads”.

I didn’t get everything right back then. I took wrong turns. I chased things that didn’t work. But I took messy action and that mattered more than perfection ever could.

Ten years later, I’ve lost 75 pounds. But I’ve gained far more.
I gained the confidence to make hard decisions I knew were right.

I learned to use boundaries in ways the good girl version of me never could have imagined.

I stopped ignoring how my body felt and started listening to it.
I learned to trust myself to choose what actually supports me, even when it’s uncomfortable.

I gave myself permission to stop proving my worth through exhaustion.

I built consistency without punishment.

I got clear on what matters and what and who no longer gets access to me.

I learned to lead myself first.

I created systems that supported me when motivation disappeared.

And now 10 years later, I’ve built a life and career helping overwhelmed, high-achieving moms feel strong, capable, and confident in their bodies too.

So yeah…
It was never just about the weight.
