I love makeup just as much as I love simple affordable storage solutions. Not everyone has a ton of money to spend on custom built closets or personal home organizers so I’ve made it my mission to share some affordable options to keep your home uncluttered. For my first post, I’m starting with a ridiculously easy project that might not cost you a penny if you have a bunch of Mason jars lying around your house like I do at any given time!
I started by cleaning out my makeup, tossing anything that I hadn’t used in the past three months. Once I did that, I cleaned out some old Mason jars that I had stored with a bunch of candles and other decorating items. I separated my makeup, brushes, hair ties, and bobby pins into the assorted jars. Now they are nicely displayed on my vanity in my bedroom that I’m lucky to have and fits perfectly between my two small closets. I love old New England homes, but hate the lack of closet space! The vanity is the Mid-Century Mini Desk from West Elm. While it’s no longer available in this color, there are some other great options. The chair is also from West Elm. If don’t have space for an actual vanity, you could use the same Mason jar display on your bathroom vanity or vanity mirror storage.
One important part to all decluttering projects is ensuring you have a plan to keep the area neat moving forward. For this to work you, need to pair down your makeup options and not be too tempted to always try the latest and greatest item. I’ve found this to be helpful on my pocketbook as well as on my desire to live a minimalist lifestyle – still a work in progress!
